Femslash Week In Review heads-up

There probably won't be a post next week (covering the week ending 2023-07-10). I'm sure you've all heard about the DDoS AO3 has been responding to for the past couple of days. The measures they put in place to bring the site back online, also block the query I use to get new data about works categorized F/F (and in order to post next week, I would normally get new data today).

My immediate plan is to do nothing: I'm sure the folks at AO3 are continuing to work very hard on site stability, and it's possible that a few days or a week from now they'll make a change which will unbreak my use case. I've skipped weeks before, so I don't see any reason to race to make changes and potentially get in anyone's way.

If they don't, after things settle down, I'll figure out how much I need to rewrite to get the stats working again. I'll keep people posted!

On the off chance anyone reading this is also impacted, and wants to trade notes about how to get things working again, reach out!

Finally, a million thanks to the hardworking folks at AO3 for everything they do!

Thanks for sharing an update. Hopefully it will be an easy fix for you to get your query working again once AO3 is stable again - and in the meantime, skipping a week or two seems very reasonable!

I read an update from AO3 that the settings they currently have, aren't ones they're planning to keep forever. So I'm optimistic that things might just start working again.

Thanks for sharing this update!! Just as BNHA came back up on the last chart, so I can pretend we'll stay on for more than a week this time ;)

I've never used those scripts but I wonder if there are other people over at fancoded who have and might have ideas! Though you're probably right that it's better to wait a little while the site stabilises again.
