High-level stats for week of 2023-06-27 - 2023-07-03

  • Total works categorized F/F on AO3: 8004 (+178 from last week)

  • Works I classified F/F: 4739 (+23 from last week) (2176 new, 2563 continued)

  • 0.71% of all 665894 AO3 works I've classified F/F were updated this week

A few callouts this week:

  • Boku no Hero Academia is back for the first time in a month, replacing Amphibia.
  • Grey's Anatomy celebrates 40 consecutive weeks on the chart (out of a lifetime total of 196 weeks). Genshin Impact reaches an impressive 130 consecutive weeks.
  • I know I mention the ongoing A Woman's Place [...is in the Resistance] recurring exchange periodically, but here's another mention because right now in July, vids are live from the spring vid exchange, signups are open for a vid auction, and a call for fanwork recs is currently open. So go check that out if any of it is of interest.

There probably won't be a post next week (covering the week ending 2023-07-10). I'm sure you've all heard about the DDoS AO3 has been responding to for the past couple of days. The measures they put in place to bring the site back online, also block the query I use to get new data about works categorized F/F (and in order to post next week, I would normally get new data today).

My immediate plan is to do nothing: I'm sure the folks at AO3 are continuing to work very hard on site stability, and it's possible that a few days or a week from now they'll make a change which will unbreak my use case. I've skipped weeks before, so I don't see any reason to race to make changes and potentially get in anyone's way.

If they don't, after things settle down, I'll figure out how much I need to rewrite to get the stats working again. I'll keep people posted!

On the off chance anyone reading this is also impacted, and wants to trade notes about how to get things working again, reach out!

Finally, a million thanks to the hardworking folks at AO3 for everything they do!
